Significant Flooding in Teknaf Affects Thousands of Families
Heavy rainfall has severely impacted Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar, submerging at least 50 villages and affecting about 8,000 households, in line with neighborhood officials.
Tofayel Ahmed, Assistant Director on the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office, said that the area experienced 63 millimeters of rainfall within 24 hours, from noon on Tuesday to midday on Wednesday. Saiful Islam, Officer-in-Charge at the Teknaf Meteorological Office, noted fifty six millimeters of rainfall in just six hours.
While different upazilas in Cox’s Bazar have not skilled flooding, Teknaf has been extensively inundated. The affected regions include eight villages in Whykong union, 12 in Hnila union, seven in Teknaf municipality, six in Teknaf Sadar union, seven in Subrang union, and 10 in Baharchara union.
Local representatives have raised issues about the worsening state of affairs because of non-stop rainfall. Rashed Mahmud Ali, Chairman of Hnila union, mentioned that over four,000 households in 12 villages are trapped through floodwaters, with flooded roads keeping apart these regions.
Mujibur Rahman, Panel Mayor of Teknaf municipality, highlighted that citizens in seven villages are waterlogged. Teknaf College and several different educational institutions are submerged, with roads in wards 7, 8, and nine underwater, reducing off communication. Additionally, fish enclosures and salt beds had been damaged.
Ziaur Rahman, Chairman of Teknaf Sadar union, showed that six villages are flooded, while Nur Hossain, Chairman of Subrang union, mentioned waterlogging in seven villages on Shah Porir Dwip and 10 villages in his union.
Nur Ahmed Anwari, Chairman of Whykong union, said that approximately 350 families are severely affected, with water getting into houses up to at least one foot deep in Unchiprang.
Amzad Hossain Khokon, Chairman of Baharchara union, stated that every ward in his union is experiencing flooding, with 10 villages maximum seriously affected, leaving 1,000 households in dire situations.
Md Adnan Chowdhury, Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer, stated, “Heavy rainfall has left humans in some villages waterlogged. We are tracking the situation and advising those in landslide-susceptible areas to relocate. Shelters are organized for the ones in want.”
Local government retain to screen the scenario and offer essential aid and recommendation to the affected residents.
