Yesterday, police discovered the semi-decomposed body of a man in an apartment located in Block C of Bashundhara residential area in the capital.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Ariful Islam from Raipura village in Narsingdi, who also resided in Japan, according to Rajan Kumar Saha, Assistant Commissioner (AC) of the Badda zone within the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Gulshan division.
Nearby, a letter and a marriage certificate were found.
Police initially suspect that Ariful’s wife, Parvin Akter, may have killed him before fleeing to Canada.
Acting on information received, police recovered the semi-decomposed body from the apartment in the afternoon.
According to Badda police, Ariful and Parvin had rented the apartment in a Maati Properties building for seven days through an online app, presenting themselves as husband and wife on May 17.
“There are stab wounds on the chest and neck,” stated the CID Crime Scene unit after examining the scene.
CCTV footage from the building showed Parvin Akter leaving the apartment alone at 6:31 am on May 18.
The body was sent to Suhrawardy Medical College morgue for an autopsy later in the evening.
Police suspect that Parvin, who also resides in Canada, may have planned the murder during her visit to Bangladesh before returning to Canada.
Efforts to locate the suspect are ongoing, the ADC reported.
