Three Bangladeshi individuals sustained injuries in two separate incidents involving landmine explosions near the Myanmar border in Naikhongchhari, Bandarban.
The first explosion occurred on Saturday night near border pillar No. 47 in the Fultali area, injuring two individuals. The second explosion, in the same vicinity, injured a third person on Sunday morning, according to Nurul Absar Emon, chairman of Naikhongchhari Sadar Union Council.
All three individuals had crossed the border into Myanmar illegally to bring back cattle, Absar stated.
The injured parties are identified as Md Rafique from Ramu in Cox’s Bazar, Mohammad Abdullah from Garjania, and Rashid Ahmed from Kachchhapia.
Abdullah suffered the dismemberment of both legs in one of the explosions and was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital in critical condition. The other two individuals were transferred to Cox’s Bazar District Hospital.
Md Ashikur Rahman, resident medical officer of the district hospital, reported that one injured individual was admitted in critical condition on Saturday night, while the other arrived on Sunday morning.
Saber Ahmed, a member of Naikhongchhari Sadar Union, stated that Border Guard Bangladesh has intensified security measures along the border.
Recent years have seen Bangladeshi casualties due to mine explosions along the Myanmar border amidst ongoing conflict between the Myanmar military and rebels in the Rahine state.
