Following weeks of intense heat, residents of Dhaka welcomed relief as rain swept through the city last night.
The downpour commenced around 10:00 pm, with certain areas like Motijheel, Farmgate, Dhanmandi, and Mirpur experiencing hailstorms, significantly lowering temperatures.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) had forecasted the rain, predicting rainfalls accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds across various parts of the country. Heavy rain and thunder showers were specifically anticipated in Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, with rainfall also expected in Dhaka, Chattogram, and other regions.
The BMD also anticipates a decrease in both daytime and nighttime temperatures by 1-3°C over the next 24 hours, with the likelihood of rain and thunderstorms persisting for the next five days.
Earlier in the day, the BMD issued a “Nor’wester Warning Message,” indicating the likelihood of rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds, sweeping over several divisions including Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet within the next 72 hours, starting at 4:00 pm on Sunday. Isolated places may experience lightning, hail, and nor’wester storms during this period, according to the warning.
