Fire Breaks Out in Sundarbans Amidst Sweltering Heatwave

In the midst of an unyielding heatwave plaguing the southwest region of Bangladesh, a fire has erupted in the Amurbunia area of the Chandpai range within the Sundarbans in Bagerhat district. Efforts to contain the blaze were initiated by the Department of Forest personnel and local villagers on Saturday afternoon.

Kazi Muhammad Nurul Karim, Divisional Forest Officer of Sundarbans East, reported that departmental workers promptly responded to the smoke sighting earlier in the day, with villagers subsequently joining the firefighting efforts. The origin of the fire and the specific vegetation affected remained uncertain at the time of reporting.

Situated in the southwestern region of Bangladesh, the Sundarbans encompasses the world’s largest mangrove forests, renowned for their rich biodiversity, including the iconic Royal Bengal Tiger.
