Three more dengue deaths in 15 days bring the total to 27.

Three additional fatalities have been reported in Bangladesh due to dengue, occurring 15 days following the previous death. This brings the total death toll to 27, as disclosed by the Directorate General of Health Services. Among the recent cases, three were in Dhaka South City Corporation. In the same update, it was revealed that nine new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals within a day, with three in Dhaka South, four in Dhaka Division (excluding the capital), and two in Barishal. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 2,248 reported infections. Currently, 54 patients are receiving treatment in Dhaka hospitals, while 62 are undergoing treatment outside the capital. The dengue outbreak, which saw 321,179 hospitalizations and 1,705 deaths in 2023, persists into the current year. Experts attribute the ongoing crisis to rising temperatures and insufficient measures to control the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the primary vector of the virus. They warn that without adequate preventive actions, dengue could become a year-round concern in Bangladesh, rather than being limited to the monsoon season.
